Don't let acne during pregnancy
...spoil your maternity wedding day

acne during pregnancy is very commonYou're not alone ... lots of women get acne during pregnancy ... and it's especially common to get acne in early pregnancy!

You're most likely to experience acne during your first trimester ... that's when your hormones are raging and your body's oil production is increasing.

Getting help with your pregnancy acne

Some lucky women find their skin clears up during pregnancy ... but it's much more common to get regular outbreaks of whiteheads, blackheads and cystic acne.

First things first ... ask your doctor or dermatologist for help because suffering from acne during pregnancy is physically and emotionally painful.

Natural Treatments For Acne in Pregnancy
Tea Tree Oil: An effective natural product for you to try!

tea tree treatment for pregnancy acne Tea Tree Oil is a great natural product that has been proven to work on killing acne bacteria.

There's evidence that it can help with scarring.

I was introduced to it by an Australian girl-friend, after many years of painful over-the-counter remedies and the misery of living with acne breakouts.

A word of warning to be careful at first if your skin is not used to tea tree oil as it's possible to be very sensitive to it!

I suggest you give it a try well in advance of your wedding day!

I found that mixing one or two drops of tea tree oil with a pure aloe vera gelly was great for soothing my irritated skin as it healed. Then I gradually increased the amount of tea tree oil.

And I know it's tough not to scratch or pick at your face, but try not to or you'll end up with horrid scars to deal with ... not good for your wedding day!

Acne Skincare Tips

Most important of all ... wash your face well every morning and night with a mild soapy cleanser and warm water. Be scrupulous about washing away all soap residues, as this could cause your pores to block and create more painful breakouts.

My favourite? The Clearskin range from Avon: it's inexpensive and really kind to your skin! Clearskin Deep Cleansing Cloths are very handy too!

Keeping your skin healthy from the inside out

blueberries for acne in pregnancy

  • stay really well hydrated (drink at least 8 glasses of water a day)
  • eat lots of low-fat foods, free from preservatives ... blueberries and apples are great because they are high in anti-oxidants
  • remember to use natural products as much as possible

Looking on the bright side ... acne during pregnancy often doesn't need to be medically treated and your skin should be back to normal on its own in a few short months.

Acne Treatments to Check With Your Doctor!

Treating acne in pregnancy can be tricky because lots of prescribed antibiotics are not suitable for pregnant women.

Isotretinoin tablets and tretinoin cream are banned for women experiencing acne during pregnancy because they can cause fetal abnormalities. Tetracycline is also not recommended as a treatment for acne in pregnancy, as it can be responsible for poor fetal bone growth and tooth discoloration in infants.

Some doctors are happy to prescribe erythromycin for use during pregnancy, but as with all medications during pregnancy, it's really best to avoid if possible.

Some 'over-the-counter' acne treatments contain salycylic acid, others benzoyl peroxide ... both of these should be safe for you to use during pregnancy.
