1. Do as I did and have your wedding make-up done for free by a sales consultant in your local department store. I was even treated me to a glass of bubbly because it was my wedding day!

3. Think about borrowing 'family jewels' for the day ... why spend pots of cash on a pricey necklace you'll never wear again if someone you love has one to lend you? And it'll serve double duty as your 'something borrowed and something old' too!



4. Don't buy a bride's emergency kit, have a bridesmaid put one together for you as part of their duties. It will keep them busy and save you money.



5. Forget about having an elaborate wedding hairstyle. Have a great cut a few days before your big day, then style your hair yourself, or ask a friend to help you ... you'll save lots of money. Have fun with a couple of practice sessions to test out how to use your hair accessories.



6. If you're going to wear tights with your dress, buy regular maternity ones ... for comfort, support and a big saving! No one will even see your tights so don't waste money on a luxury pair!



7. Treat your tired feet and choose simple ballet flats in place of ornate, expensive wedding shoes. If you're wearing a long wedding dress, no one will notice anyway.

10. Wedding favours are a lovely 'thank you' for your guests, but it's easy to over-spend if you're not careful. I made my own and they went down a treat.
