What causes hair loss in pregnancy?
There's little solid medical information to explain exactly what causes pregnancy hair loss.
This can be frustrating and upsetting when you're planning a wedding ... just when you need your hair to look its best!
One hair loss theory is that dry hair gets drier during pregnancy because of the high level of Progesterone in your body.
Dry hair is more likely to crack and break off. When hair breaks off near to the roots, it's easy to confuse this hair 'loss' with hair actually falling out from the roots.
If you're not getting enough vitamins or minerals ... especially iron ... this can make your hair dry, brittle and liable to fall out.
An under or overactive thyroid can also cause hair to fall out.
If you are very concerned about your pregnancy hair loss ... ask your doctor whether you might have a thyroid condition.
Talk to your hairdresser about your hair loss during pregnancy and how you're worried it might affect the wedding hairstyles you've considered.
