Honeymoon hot spots! What images do you conjure up when your hear those words? Luxury? Escapism? Relaxing?

The Maternity Honeymoon Dilemma

Many of the traditional best honeymoon places are tropical destinations needing vaccinations ... and that's not always wise for a pregnant woman.

So here's a list made up the traditional favourite hot honeymoon destinations that are perfect for a maternity honeymooner.

Just make sure you are sure you have your doctor's blessing before you go ahead and book any travel and that your travel insurance policy makes no exclusions now that you're pregnant!

Hawaii manages to combine beautiful scenery and seas with cultural diversity and the friendliness of the 'Aloha' welcome.

Each of the islands has its' own unique character with masses to offer any honeymooner, but the most charming place to stay is simply has to be The Royal Hawaiian Hotel or 'Pink Palace of the Pacific' which has been a symbol of oceanfront luxury on Waikiki Beach since 1927.

Bahamas Expect a warm welcome, acres of white sandy beaches, sparkling blue sea and tropical surroundings when you visit the Bahamas for your maternity honeymoon. It's what the words relaxing honeymoon hot spots were designed to describe!

Where to stay? Wyndham Nassau Resort and Crystal Casino has too many amenities to mention here but my personal favourites are the Sheraton resorts which always over-delivers on class and quality!

Barbados is a beach holiday with a twist. There's the Caribbean trademark powdery white sands, swaying palms and warm waters mixed with an extra sparkle that other islands lack ... could it be that sound of calypso that fills the air? Then there's the wondefully generous locals with their zest for life.

Don't just come for the beaches ... the candy-coloured houses, are so pretty and the towns offer boutiques and modern shopping centres. It might be a long old flight ... but Barbados is well worth it! Make time for some duty-free shopping ... and the Chalky Mount Potteries are not to be missed!

California is a perennial honeymoon hot spot offering breathtaking mountain ranges, miles of sandy coastline and an eclectic mix of vibrant cities.

Your only problem will be choosing what not to do so you don't get too tired!

After you've shopped on Rodeo Drive allow yourself time for the spectacular scenery of Yosemite National Park.

California's so vast, you'll need to plan carefully. Where do you want to visit? Disneyland (Anaheim); Los Angeles; Palm Springs; Sacramento; San Diego; San Francisco or Santa Barbara.

Jamaica Largest of the English-speaking Caribbean Islands, Jamaica pulses with reggae rhythms and simply oozes rum and spices. The stunning natural landscapes range from the outstanding beaches, to the Blue Mountains and rivers and waterfalls like Dunn's River Falls.

Take time to visit Kingston and try out Jamaican 'jerk' chicken ... it's a bit fiery and might turn you both into honeymoon hot spots! Don't miss the local Jamaican artisans offering beautiful wood-carvings, paintings and pottery. Great places to stay include Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Negril

Relax during the day by your pool or visit the Grand Canyon, then glam it up at night on Fremont Street and chance your luck at one of the casinos.

Best place to stay has to be The Bellagio Hotel and Casino for elegance and convenience.

Or what about a dedicated spa or golf hotel? Las Vegas has lots to offer ... just remember to put your feet up occasionally and relax!

Sorrento is an enchanting town superbly located looking across the Bay of Naples towards Mount Vesuvius. It's the most popular place on the Neapolitan Riviera and with sunshine, views and top-notch food it's easy to see why.

Sorrento's a great base for visiting places like Pompeii, Capri and the Amalfi Coast. Sorrento is a sophisticated treat perfect for a pregnant woman to enjoy!

Stay at the Grand Hotel Ambasciatori ... with it's beautiful gardens and personal service this fabulous hotel gets my vote!

Portugal ... especially Madeira! Sir Winston Churchill's great friend recommended Madeira and a suite at Reid's Palace as somewhere 'warm, paintable, bathable, comfortable and flowery' to convalesce and restore his spirit.

Madeira would still fit the bill today ... it's holidaying as it used to be ... with fabulous service and lots of opportunities to dress up for afternoon tea and for dinner. Don't forget to take your maternity evening wear with you!
