Although we had big dreams, Mick and I didn't have a large, fancy wedding. Not too many of our friends today know that!
We did want a big traditional wedding, with all 7 of our nieces as bridesmaids, Mick's big brother as best man, and a bridal shower complete with fun bridal shower games, but our circumstances meant that a faster, cheaper wedding was the best option for us.
We weren't as careful as we should have been and I got pregnant during our engagement.
Desperate to save as much money as we could for the baby, so I could stay home from work for at least a year, we reworked our plans and decided on a quick justice of peace wedding, followed up with posh afternoon tea at a local manor-house hotel, which was fab! Our honeymoon treat was to stay there for 2 nights - me enjoying the spa and Mick polishing his golf swing ..
We've never had a moments regret about our speedy wedding, because it was important to both of us to be married before Georgie was born and we would never have traded that precious time we had after she was born.
OK - I admit I do dream of planning a big traditional white wedding for Georgie one day! Lord knows how much it will cost by then and I'm not sure what I'll say if she turns rounds and tells me there are so many other things that all that money could be spent on and that she wants a 'quickie wedding' just like her mum ...
