Is it OK to be a very pregnant bridesmaid?

by Leila
(Rochester)

I will be nearly 8 months pregant when my best friend gets married in May. I agreed to be her bridesmaid before I knew I was pregnant and now I'm worried about how I will cope. I don't want to take anything away from her having a perfect day and am worried about pulling out now, but a few people have suggested I might not be able to manage on the day.

She is such a good friend and I don't want to let her down, but now I'm confused. This is our first baby so I have no idea how tired or big I might be by May! And my Mum made me nervous saying the baby might come early too!

Pregnant bridesmaids rock!
by: Mhairi

Of course it's OK to be a pregnant bridesmaid! If you're happy with the 'job' and have thought honestly about how tired you might be - then go for it.

Pregnant bridesmaids look so cute! Good luck!

My sister was a VERY pregnant bridesmaid!
by: Becca

Hi Leila

My little sister was a bridesmaid this year - only 2 weeks away from her due date! Lots of people tried to 'persuade' her that she should not do it and some even told me (it was my wedding) that I should ask her to stand down, as people would be looking more at her belly more than me.

Well - she was a real trooper! She was very heavy but looked so pretty. Neither of us would have changed a thing and it made my day extra special that she would do thois for me.

My advice - go for it if you feel OK. You can work out lots of places to rest up, and you'll enjoy the party!

It's OK to be a heavily pregnant bridesmaid
by: Coralie

Hi Leila

Thanks for your question.

The key to success in being a pregnant bridesmaid is to work closely with the bride. Be totally honest with her and explain your worries. As she's your best friend I'm sure she will understand and look for ways to compromise, making the day easier for you, and allowing you to be part of her big day.

So long as you have a comfortable dress and shoes, and somewhere to sit and rest during the ceremony, I am sure you will enjoy the day.

And it's essential to have your 'Plan B' worked out too! Keep your hospital bag in the car and all your medical notes close to hand, so if baby does decide to make an early appearance, you are all set to go!

I hope this helps - you might want to take a peek at my pregnant bridesmaid tips page for more ideas.

Have a great day!
