Not so long ago, a maternity wedding dress was an object of shame and derision. Luckily for today's pregnant bride, attitudes have changed dramatically and the maternity wedding gown is becoming trendy.

Women in the developed nations are generally fortunate enough to live in a tolerant and open-minded society.

Same sex marriages are welcomed in some quarters, women are finally allowed to take holy orders and many couples co-habit pre-maritally.

And as women focus on their careers like never before, it's also no surprise that some put all thoughts of a baby on hold until well after their own mothers did.

When is the Right Time for a Shotgun Maternity Wedding?

Today's pregnant bride doesn't have to suffer a shotgun wedding!

This is entirely a matter of personal choice.

First Trimester

Old fashioned wisdom would dictate a 'shotgun wedding' approach whereby the marriage takes place as quickly as possible, before any hint of a baby belly!

A wedding this early would require dedication to pull off successfully in such a short period of time ... you will only have a about 6 to 8 weeks for planning! But it is all perfectly achievable with my fast wedding planning tools!

Second Trimester

But many women suffer from morning sickness in their first trimester ... so a second trimester wedding is often a happier compromise. Second trimester baby bumps can often be disguised or at least played down with a pretty empire line maternity wedding gown.

At least with a second trimester wedding, you'll probably be able to honeymoon if you want to ... but do check out these pregnancy travel tips before you make any reservations ... and don't forget to ask your doctor if your planned destination will be safe for you to travel to!

Third Trimester

Third trimester maternity weddings are very special, as it's clear that there is a precious new life growing within the bride.
