Pregnancy myths ... under the spotlight!
My best girlfriend and I found out about pregnancy myths and old wives tales (especially anything to do with morning sickness) when she was pregnant with her first child.
Excitement at her long-awaited pregnancy had soon turned to despair when horrible morning sickness arrived with a vengeance in week 7 and she was horribly, endlessly sick!
As I was lucky and didn't suffer from morning sickness when I was pregnant, we set out together to learn as much as we could about what causes morning sickness, and
to look for home remedies for her to try.
We were amazed to discover that modern science still doesn't have an exact answer for the cause of pregnancy's most famous symptom!
Pregnancy Myths and Old Wives Tales
Old wives seem to have an answer for everything ... whether they're right or not, their confidence is reassuring.
Looking back at my pregnancy ... with hindsight of course ... those good old pregnancy myths were spot on for me!
Maybe those old wives know what they're talking about after all ...

Morning sickness pregnancy myths!

As far as morning sickness is concerned, current theory says it's the extra estrogen made by the girl foetus in the first trimester that causes the nausea!
Are those clever old wives on to something ?
A 2004 study by researchers at the University of Washington found that of 2110 women hospitalized for extreme nausea 57.5% had a chance of having a girl as opposed to the usual 48.2% of unhospitalized women who had girls.
